Year 1 Explore South Shields on Coastal Visit
Back
Our Year 1 children had a fantastic day at the seaside and park, enjoying a range of exciting activities. They visited the ‘weebles’ statues at Little Haven before walking along the promenade to the beach.
Once at the beach, the children had a wonderful time building sandcastles, creating sand sculptures and taking part in a mini beach litter pick to help care for the local environment. The children chose to do their litter pick, as we had read about them in one of our books in our English lessons. We consolidated our knowledge of the local area and key features of the seaside. The children recognise lots of the key seaside features such as the promenade, pier, arcades, restaurants, lighthouses, and coastline.
There was plenty of fun to be had at the park, where the children enjoyed playing together and developing their friendships. The children loved riding on the miniature steam train, we had two exciting trips around the park, and we even watched the engine be filled up with coal and chatted to the driver about how the steam trains worked.
At lunchtime, everyone relaxed and enjoyed their packed lunches while sitting in the bandstand.
To make the day even more special, the children finished their trip with a delicious ice cream from Minchella's.
The children were a credit to the school throughout the day, demonstrating excellent behaviour, enthusiasm, and respect for others. It was a wonderful trip filled with fun, learning, and memorable experiences.
