Support for Neurodevelopmental Diversity
At Oxclose Primary Academy we have a growing number of pupils who have neurodevelopmental diversity, which includes areas of need such as Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia and Learning Disabilities. Within these diagnosed areas, there is a range of need; we work with professionals to provide the best support for pupils based on individual needs. As well as working with external services, such as Educational Psychologists, CYPS and Medical Professionals to support pupils’ neurodevelopmental diversity needs, we also provide in-school support and interventions.
We believe that it is important to provide a positive, supportive and caring ethos. On a daily basis, class teachers would be parents’ first point of contact should advice or support be required.
To support pupils with neurodevelopmental diversity we have a range of provisions in place dependent on the level of need, however, across all classes and learning areas we ensure that pupils have access to:
- Sensory friendly, organised and calm environments.
- Strong and consistent routines within classes and across school.
- Clear routines for transitions across the day.
- Designated quiet spaces within each classroom with identified self-regulation resources.
- Clear expectations for noise levels.
- Whole class visual timetables are visible for all (individual timetables are provided where needed).
If the SENDCo, Class Teachers and Support Staff feel pupils would benefit from a greater level of support then the following may also be implemented:
- Access to a range of strategies and resources to support with sensory regulation, routine and movement breaks.
- Widget symbols to support with visual reminders.
- Individual Sensory Profile.
- Timetabled sensory circuit opportunities across the day.
Some pupils with complex needs, who meet the in school criteria for entry, may access The Nest.
