Some of our pupils, who access Life Skills as an extension to their PSHE curriculum, had a brilliant time when they visited Asda Washington to buy ingredients to make their own smoothies.

This half term the pupils have been covering Independent Living Skill, with a focus on food preparation and healthy eating.  Within their Life Skills sessions, they have tasted different fruits and decided which they would like to include in their own smoothies.

During the visit to Asda, they used a shopping list to identify the fruit they needed, added them to the basket and then scanned their shopping before paying.

When they returned to school, the pupils carefully chopped the fruit and used the blender to create the smoothies. They even made enough to share with the staff.

The pupils learnt lots of skills linked to shopping, paying for their food and preparing the fruit for their smoothies.  Staff also took the opportunity to teach about the importance of keeping ourselves safe within the local area, listening to adults and making safe choices when outside of school.

The pupils and staff all had a fantastic afternoon!
