Reception Pupils Help Care for Their Local Community
Back
Reception pupils from Oxclose Primary Academy have been learning about the importance of caring for their local community through a range of thoughtful and hands-on activities.
As part of their learning, children created maps showing their journeys to the library and enjoyed discussing the things they love about where they live, including local parks, nature, shops and restaurants. Pupils also shared ideas about changes they would like to see in the community, including tackling litter, graffiti, broken swings, smashed windows and abandoned trolleys.
Inspired to make a positive difference, the children took part in litter picks around the school grounds and local area, helping to keep Washington clean and tidy. They also designed posters to encourage others to take pride in the local community, which are now proudly displayed on the school fence.
The project gave pupils a valuable opportunity to develop important skills including Teamwork, Creativity, Speaking and Staying Positive, whilst encouraging them to take pride in their local area and understand how small actions can make a big difference.
A huge thank you to Keep Washington Tidy for kindly providing the equipment and supporting the children with this important work.
