We are proud to share that three of our Year 6 pupils have begun attending an exciting new after-school enrichment club: Ox-traordinary Art Squad—a creative play on our school name and our core value of being extraordinary.

The children themselves requested this club following our inspirational visit to the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle during the spring term. During the visit, they took part in a local landscapes workshop, where they explored painting techniques using watercolours. This experience sparked a real enthusiasm for art and creativity, which the children were keen to continue developing back at school.

The gallery visit formed part of our 11 by 11 offer, funded by Laidlaw X, ensuring that all children have the opportunity to experience a visit to an art gallery before they leave Year 6. This commitment supports our wider personal development curriculum, broadening pupils’ cultural capital and inspiring future interests.

Although the club is still in its early stages, the children have already begun to impress. They have created their own landscape paintings and have since requested to explore painting “cute animals”. They have started with a penguin and are looking forward to developing their artwork further over the coming weeks.

We are sure you will agree that the children have demonstrated some truly extraordinary artistic skills over the past two weeks. We look forward to seeing how their confidence and creativity continue to grow through this exciting new opportunity.
