Forensic Friday at OPA

We had a fantastic time celebrating Oxclose Health and Happiness Week 2026 from Monday 22nd June to Friday 26th June. Throughout the week, every child took part in a variety of sporting activities, PSHE lessons and wellbeing experiences.
Our aim was to help children build their own life “toolkits” by giving them the knowledge, skills and strategies they need to look after their mental and physical health. We also focused on building resilience, confidence, safety awareness and kindness.
Learning About Health, Safety and Wellbeing
Across the school, children explored a wide range of PSHE topics, including mental health, diversity, online safety, personal safety, wellbeing, money, self‑care, healthy eating, managing emotions and healthy relationships. Each year group chose themes that supported their class in developing important life skills.
We also enjoyed cookery sessions with our school chef, Mrs Emery, and took part in engaging workshops delivered by the Sunderland Healthy Heads team.
Active Bodies, Active Minds
Our pupils took part in lots of exciting PE and fitness activities, including a special sporting afternoon with their classmates. These sessions encouraged teamwork, confidence and a love of being active. Children had the chance to try new skills, join in group games and take on fun fitness challenges. These activities helped them build resilience, stay motivated and understand why physical activity is such an important part of a healthy lifestyle.
WOW Experience: Mobile Climbing Wall
One of the highlights of the week was a visit from the mobile climbing wall. This WOW experience gave pupils the chance to practise problem‑solving, build confidence, take safe risks, work as a team and improve their physical strength and endurance.
CSI Skills Builder Day
We ended our action‑packed week with the Skills Builder CSI Day on Friday. Every class took part in a crime‑scene‑themed challenge, working together to solve a fictional mystery. Along the way, children developed the eight essential Skills Builder competencies: Listening, Speaking, Problem Solving, Creativity, Adapting, Planning, Leadership and Teamwork.
