Oxclose Primary Academy Pupils Explore Mindfulness and Healthy Choices
Back
Pupils at Oxclose Primary Academy enjoyed a session with Anthony from Active Sunderland, learning about the importance of staying healthy and practising mindfulness.
The pupils explored different ways to stay calm and focused, inclusing finger breathing and other breathing techniques. They learned that mindfulness is about being calm and concentrating on one thing at a time.
The session also included yoga, with pupils trying a range of poses including tree, cat, cow, cobra and downward dog. Vaeda particularly enjoyed the yoga, saying: "I enjoyed doing the cow pose."
Pupils also took part in a taste-testing activity, using their senses to explore different foods. Lincoln said: "I liked the bit where we got to try the strawberries."
There was also time for pupils to relax and practise being still. Luca said: "I enjoyed lying down and closing my eyes."
The session also helped pupils understand the importance of exercise. Jaxon said: "We have to do exercise to get strong."
It was a fun and practical session, giving pupils the opportunity to learn about healthy choices, exercise and simple mindfulness techniques they can use in everyday life.
